I was the senior surgeon on the melanoma and sarcoma unit at Royal Marsden Hospital for 29 years. One of my greatest achievement was to determine the necessary width of excision of deep primary melanomas: results published in NEJM in 2004. I also published and debated widely against SLNB in melanoma as my selected publications show. I debated against many of the main American protagonists of SLNB who together managed to stifle any opposition, preferring ideology to accurate statistical analysis.
