Howard Steinman, M.D. was born and raised Los Angeles, CA. He graduated from Pomona College in Claremont, CA in 1976 and Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, MO in 1980. He completed his dermatology residency first at the University of California, San Diego and then at St. John’s Hospital for Diseases of the Skin in London, U.K. He completed his Mohs surgery fellowship at the University of Illinois at Chicago.
He practiced in Chula Vista, CA for 25 years, serving on the full-time and volunteer faculty of the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine before moving to Temple, Texas in 2009. There he served as the Director of Mohs and Dermatologic Surgery at Scott & White Medical Center, the primary dermatology residency program for Texas A&M Medical School, where he was an associate professor. In 2012, he entered private practice in the Dallas, Texas area. He continues to teach dermatology residents as an Adjunct Associate Professor of Dermatology at Campbell University.
He is a board-certified dermatologist and a Fellow of the American College of Mohs Surgery. He co-founded and served as the president of the American Society for Mohs Surgery, and co-directed their annual Fundamentals of Mohs Surgery Course for 25 years.
Dr. Steinman has co-authored two Mohs surgery textbooks, 12 textbook chapters, and 47 journal publications. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology and the American College of Mohs Surgery. He has been an invited speaker at dozens regional, national and international dermatology conferences.
