Leader in development of BAUSSS biomarker

Professor Anthony J. Dixon is an academic focused on cutaneous oncology, specifically skin cancer. Ant's expertise lies in the complications and outcomes of skin cancer interventions, including adherence to melanoma treatment guidelines. Over Ant's 25 years of research, it has concentrated on this narrow aspect of medical care, making significant contributions to the field, including insights relevant to the BAUSSS survival chart.

Up until 2018, Dr. Dixon managed skin cancers, including melanoma, on a full-time basis. Patients received treatment in Ant's own day surgery unit as well as a nearby major hospital, with many cases involving cancers on the head and neck. Reconstructions following excisions of the nose, lips, ears, and eyelids were integral to Ant's medical practice. Throughout this career, Ant has personally removed over 60,000 skin cancers, allowing Ant to engage in numerous research opportunities. Prior to specializing in skin cancer, Dr. Dixon practiced rural surgery in Australia, completing rural surgery training in 1994.

Professor Dixon completed PhD in 2008 at Bond University Queensland, and has continued research into skin cancer complications and outcomes since then. Ant serves as an Honorary Professor at the American Osteopathic College of Dermatology and is the Director of Dermatology Education at the Australasian College of Cutaneous Oncology. Ant is also a life member of the Florida Society of Dermatologic Surgeons and was the former Victorian Vice President of the Australian Medical Association until 1997.

Dr. Dixon has been an invited speaker at hundreds of academic meetings across every Australian state and territory, as well as on every continent, including Antarctica. Ant's teaching outside of Australia has primarily taken place in the USA and New Zealand.

In Ant's personal life, Dr. Dixon is married and has two adult daughters and a growing number of grandchildren. Ant enjoys bushwalking, travel, and training wild Australian native birds, although it seems that the king parrots may have trained Ant instead.
